Redesigning IBM’s sales publishing system

The Challenge

Design and develop a new ‘Partnerworld’ publishing service for internal IBMers in two years which save $2 million per year and before legacy systems are switched off.

There were three stages in the design process:

Understand

  • Fully embedded in Global Web page team understanding the process
  • Developed and made web pages on Partnerworld to understand the hand offs and information flows
  • Interviewed different IBMers & stakeholders to understand what their needs. Personas were created from these
  • A two day design workshop to break down the different problems and hypothesis so that co-located agile team was aligned with all stakeholders and to the problems being designed and developed.

Define

  • Identified one user group to continually test with
  • Low fidelity prototypes were used to various options and ideas

Delivery

  • Worked in a two week agile sprint format breaking up scenarios to test, iterate and learn
  • Different web page Items were designed (Create a band, Types of bands, Edit a band, Edit page elements. These went into Visual design and then development
  • Eleven sprints to MVP launch
